History of National Delta Chi

On October 13, 1890, eleven law students at Cornell University formed a law fraternity, Delta Chi. In 1922, the Fraternity officially went "general," thus opening its membership to men in all areas of study. Delta Chi, in 1929, became the first fraternity to officially abolish the hazing practices associated with "hell week."

Currently Delta Chi has more than 137 chapters and colonies across the United States and Canada, and has welcomed more than 100,000 men into its membership.

History of Pitt Delta Chi

Founded in the Fall 2003, The University of Pittsburgh chapter of the Delta Chi Fraternity has continued to lead the local Interfraternity Council as a beacon of success.

Since its beginnings, Delta Chi has grown from 38 members to 92 active members with hundreds of alumni over the years. The history of Pitt Delta Chi is full of achievements, all of which were accomplished by the founding members of the fraternity. Every brother that came after has been able to build on this foundation to improve the fraternity further. Please take a look at a few of these memories of the Pittsburgh chapter of Delta Chi.

  • homeHouse Improvement Projects

In August of 2014, the Chapter moved to a University-owned Fraternity House on the hill. Over the course of this academic year, we have been working tirelessly to make it our own, painting, decorating and building. Here are the home improvement projects brothers of Pitt Delta Chi have been working on.

    Stagemore_vert

Funded by CJ Stavrakos and Patrick O'Donnell.

    Stageclose

For fundraising events such as Karaoke Night, as well as social events, the stage provides a safe and mobile raised surface for presentations and other events.

    Cian Stryker

    Speaker Systemclose

As the years have worn on, the fraternity's speaker system have withstood a significant amount of wear-and-tear. Upgrading the amplifier and mixer, as well as purchasing or designing a cabinet to store and protect the equipment would provide a boost to the quality of a variety of events. Also, cabinets would give a more polished, organized appearance.

    The project included the following:

    • New Amplifier - $400
    • New Mixer - $200
    • Storage Cabinet - $150
    Wall Muralmore_vert

Painted by Ben Yoder, Kyle Ortmeier, and Talyor Tear.

    Wall Muralclose

The wall mural makes a great backdrop for pictures taken during any events that occurs at the Delta Chi house. The painted letters also add decoration to the walls, making the house a more attractive environment.

    Stairs Muralmore_vert

    Painted by Cian Stryker.

    Stairs Muralclose

The stairs mural is the first thing you notice when entering the house. The fraternity letters painted on the wall also help to make the house a more attractive environment.

    Coat Hangersmore_vert

    Alpha Alpha Class project.

    Coat Hangersclose

The coat hangers built by the Alpha Alpha class allows for a better use of space in the coat closet used during social events. Instead of leaving coats on the floor, guests can now hang the coats in a cleaner manner.

    Trophy Casemore_vert

    Trophy Caseclose

The trophy case displays all the trophies and milestones that Pitt Delta Chi has achieved since its chartering in 2003. The case shows the positive impact Delta Chi has made on its brothers and Pitt's campus.
